Kamiku Company
In 1898, the first manufacturing plant associated with camics was opened in Contrecoeur, Quebec, Canada.
William Cook arrived in Canada from Lebanon in 1912. he was 16 years old His father feared he would be drafted into the army at his home, so he crossed the ocean.He came alone with his $500 in his pocket.
By 1932, William had saved enough money to purchase the Charon Manufacturing Company in Contrecoeur, Quebec. He has overhauled this facility with a focus on modern footgear for his entire family.
By 1940 William Cook traveled to Japan to procure rubber footwear. In 1957, William his cook resigned in favor of his son Gordon his cook and the manufacturing talent of the new generation.
By 1961 Camic opened a second factory in Saint Laurent, Quebec.
The company eventually changed its name and location. By 1972, the Kamic brand was born. It is one of the Montreal-based brands of the Cook family’s Genfoot Group. In 1979 the company acquired Hamburg Feld. 1991 saw the company’s expansion into the European market.
Contrecoeur’s assembly line ended in 1990 and the facility closed in 2004. Operations are now split between a manufacturing facility in Montreal and a manufacturing facility in Littleton, New Hampshire, USA. In 1993, Kamik embraced sustainable manufacturing.
Despite its growth, the Cook family has remained based in Montreal and continued to use Canadian materials and Canadian talent even as many other companies began outsourcing.
